กระสือเป็นผีในความเชื่อของชาวเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้มาตั้งแต่สมัยโบราณ ว่ากันว่าเป็นหญิงสาวที่บูชามนต์ดำจนของเข้าตัวแล้วกลายเป็นผีกระสือ โดยจะมีแค่หัวกับไส้ลอยไปมา ในเวลากลางวันนางจะเป็นผู้หญิงธรรมดา แต่ในเวลากลางคืนนางจะถอดหัวออกจากลำตัวและใช้ไฟจากลำไส้นำทางเพื่อหาสิ่งสกปรกโสโครกและสัตว์เลี้ยงมากิน ชาวบ้านในสมัยก่อนมีความเชื่อที่ว่า หากพวกไก่และวัวตายยกคอกก็เพราะผีกระสือแอบมากินไปหมดแล้ว ทำให้เกิดความเชื่อว่าต้องปลูกต้นกุหลาบล้อมรอบบ้านไว้ เพราะกระสือจะกลัวหนามจากกุหลาบพันไส้ตัวเอง นี่จึงเป็นที่มาของเรื่องเล่าที่เล่าสืบต่อกันมาว่าหากเห็นแสงไฟลอยไปมาในเวลากลางคืน มันคือผีกระสือ ปัจจุบันแม้ยังไม่เคยมีใครพบเห็นผีกระสือ แต่ก็อาจเป็นไปได้ว่ายังมีกระสือแอบแฝงตัวอยู่ในกลุ่มพวกเรา! Krasue is a ghost in South East Asian folklore. Once it was a human, a young woman who worshiped the black magic. There was a mistake during the ritual and turned her into a floating head ghost with luminous internal organs hanging down from her neck. It lives like a normal human in the daytime and becomes a flying head ghost at night attacking cattle or chickens for blood and raw flesh, and sometimes feces or carrion. Cause the villagers to believe that if their cattle or chickens are all dead, it is because of the Krasue attack. As a result, they scare the ghost away by planting roses around their house since the ghost is scared of rose thorns to hook its entrails. And that’s how the story goes. There is still a belief that if you see a light floating around at night, it could be the Krasue. Even though no one has ever met it before. But who knows, it may be someone around us!
