A 2016 red wine made from 100% Feteasca Neagra, a native grape varietal from the Dealu Mare area of the Muntenia region of Romania. This wine was produced from 50 year old vines grown on calcareous soils in a naturally occurring amphitheatre, which is an optimal environment for grape ripening. The wine was produced through an ancestral, 2000 year old winemaking technique of fermenting in large, clay vessels. After fermentation the wines were then transferred to old French oak barrels to age for 2 years and once bottled, aged for an additional year before release. The 2016 vintage is also a special, limited release and only 9850 bottles were produced. This wine has powerful aromas of ripe sour cherry, red currant and black plum with notes of nutmeg, black pepper, sweet tobacco and earthy, red bricks. This wine is medium bodied despite its bold flavours due to the high levels of naturally occurring acidity. This wine speaks loudly of the Romanian terroir and is a true gem.
