A 2017 semi-sweet red wine made from one of the rarest grape varietals in the world, Usakhelauri. These grapes only grow in an incredibly small micro-climate in the Racha-Lechkhumi region of Georgia with the vines growing amongst a forest on the slopes of the Caucasus Mountains. This wine was once the star of the Soviet Union and was served to VIP guests on official visits like Truman and Churchill, but in the late 70s/early 80s the wine tastes changed and now there are only 3 tons on average of fruit per harvest and only a handful of bottles produced each year. This wine is bright ruby in colour and has aromas of wild strawberries and red cherries along with floral notes and hints of warm spices. This wine is semi-sweet due to the arrested fermentation done through chilling the wine to retain some residual sugars.
