This 2000, 100% Chenin Blanc from the Saumur appellation within the Loire Valley in France was produced by an infamously reclusive winemaker that only produces incredibly small lots of wine in only the best years. This winemaker is hard to pin down and so are his wines, making these super rare wines highly coveted by Chenin Blanc lovers around the world. This wine has been aged for 9 years in old French oak barrels giving the wine a slightly oxidative quality similar to very dry sherries. It also has aromas of honey, green apple and pear with hints of tropical fruit like guava and underripe pineapple. This wine has great structure and has a complex profile of fresh and elegant aromas grounded by chalky minerality from the Saumur terroir. This wine is a beautiful representation of the complexity found in Loire Chenin Blanc. Sweetness: dry Acidity: medium-plus Tannin: low Alcohol: medium Body: medium-plus
