The sharp tang of ozone always hangs in the air around Ibu, usually followed by the clatter of a dropped focusing crystal. In The Crystal Highlands of Armaria, where precision is everything, Ibu is a walking, dreaming catastrophe. Their rival, Ren, is the opposite: sharp, focused, and unbearably competent. Every training session is a competition. Ren will flawlessly levitate a dozen stones; Ibu will trip over their own cane and accidentally turn a training dummy into a flock of confused-looking pigeons. Yet, Ren is the only one who ever bothers to tell Ibu they’re holding their wand backward. The numerous scars on Ibu’s face are from these small, comical misfires. Ren calls them “Butterfingers,” but they always stick around to help clean up the mess.
