A mythical creature appeared out of the dust before me. And because an instant beloved visual favorite for me. Captured with my favorite lens, a fisheye, which has the magical ability to create a distinct reality out of the known reality. To emphasize what I see as a visual artist, without loosing the view on all of the subject. The Alebrije is a sculpture by Arturo Gonzalez from Saltillo, Mexico, seen for the first time at Burning Man, 2019 edition. This is a collection of 244 unique variations. To show gratitude and support in these difficult times 20% of the proceeds will go to Burning Man, without whom this desert vision would have been impossible. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Artist Statement “My work explores the relationship between a superficial, visually appealing punch and the tyrannical need to express relevance although the personal meaning is hidden. To reveal it would be too much, to ignore it, not enough. With influences as diverse as Kafka, Dali and Rammstein – without forgetting Lichtenstein and Wittgenstein - subversive new tensions are filtered into my vision from both explicit and overtly transparent layers, in constant dialogue with each other Ever since I left steady employment as a software developer for Siemens I have been fascinated by the essential unreality of a mutating zeitgeist. Taking this into consideration I like to challenge myself to always see and find a new creative dawn in the continuity of constant creation and re-creation. Thus started a journey in 2004 where I saw the chance to move people with visuals. Transport emotions through photography. Often I feel that the combination of concrete and abstract visuals (either in a stand-alone image or in a set of photos taken during a fixed period of time) is ‘beautiful’ - as defined by myself, and no one else. Thankfully many people agree and appreciate my style. Which keeps me going. As shifting replicants fill the visually void world with selfies and group images even at a most influential event like Burning Man, becoming uninspiringly frozen through diligent and repetitive practice, I am longing to stand out with every single image, so that the viewer is left with a testament to spirit and spiritual effort triumphing - with the will to overcome the lack of vision of our era of endless visual streams. As Wittgenstein once remarked, eternal life belongs to those who live in the present. Our life has no end in the way in which our visual field has no limits.” About the Artist Tomas Loewy was born in Prague, grew up in Buenos Aires, Cologne, Frankfurt, Munich and New York. Moving to Miami combined those diverse life experiences into a unique visual expression of optimism, creativity, selected spontaneity, paired with skepticism and sometimes dark sarcasm. Based on his international background in journalism, television, film & online ventures, Tomas found a vision molding images with a feel and love for moments, situations, details and human emotions. Part of this 'just-like-being-there' visual blend comes from the refusal to be content with the comfortable and predictable life most people wish to lead. The right combination of stability and (purposeful) lack thereof became a personal choice: at different times draining, provoking, challenging, depressing, energizing, exhilarating: Always a solid basis for creating unusual images. Tomas' visual installations express emotions & impact others by showing facets of life with a like-being-there point of view the viewer would not encounter without seeing these images.
