The most well-known species of this genus, whose homeland is the temperate climates of Asia, Europe and North America of the northern hemisphere, is the human-derived apple (Malus domestica), the table/culture/garden apple, from Malus sieversii. Also within this genus are species such as the Japanese flower apple (Malus floribunda) and the Siberian flower apple (Malus baccata), which are primarily considered ornamental trees, which bear cherry-sized fruit and come from East Asia.
