This video is part of the Dialectics collection that uses subject matter and filmmaking devices to synthesize and juxtapose a dialectic or dialectics. The video also continues with the use of birds as a symbolic motif, and doll-like figures as the protagonist. The video shows a doll-child figure with a bluebird in a classical pastoral setting, but overlooking what seems to be a bombing run in an industrial oil field. The iridescent oily scanner is an additional layer to consider. These Dialectics videos are a dialectic in themselves. Taken at face-value, they’re about what’s happening in the video. But I also use the metaphor of disasters and/or conflict to express psychological and emotional processes. Sound design by Barbara Chira.
