Luminomycetes Aurora, named from Latin for light and dawn, is a bioluminescent fungus of tropical cloud forests. It features a broad, convex cap 10-25 cm tall with a textured orange-red surface bearing luminescent nodules. Underneath, dense pale gills radiate from a translucent cylindrical stipe with a faint orange hue. Fruiting bodies cluster in moist, shaded sites. Bioluminescence spans 420-490 nm, emitting a blue-green glow on cap edges and gills via an active luciferin-luciferase system. Within Agaricales, cluster Luminorialis Aurorae, it joins five species with rare fluorescence. Ecologically, it decomposes organic matter in cool (5–20°C), humid conditions, with mycelium recycling nutrients and airborne spore dispersal. Each fruiting body weighs 15-50 g. Classified as rare and protected, it enriches tropical fungal biodiversity.
