Gloriana Phosphorescens, meaning 'glorious phosphorescence,' is a rare bioluminescent flowering species in the Luminous Glacies cluster. It features translucent, ruffled petals with pale blue to soft violet hues and bright orange pollen around central stamens. Supported by slender, semi-transparent stems with an amber-to-iridescent gradient, it emits blue-green bioluminescence (470-530 nm) via luciferin-luciferase in epidermal cells. Growing 10-30 cm tall in tropical rainforest canopies at 10-25°C, it weighs 15-50 grams and thrives in humid shaded habitats. Taxonomically noted for luminescent signaling and aquatic-like petal movement, it attracts nocturnal moth pollinators sensitive to blue-green light. This species plays a vital ecological role and holds rare protected status.
