Luminomycota Scintillaris, a bioluminescent fungal species in the Luminous Terra cluster, features fruiting bodies 0–15 cm tall with convex to funnel-shaped caps bearing small orange wart-like structures. Caps have incurved margins and tightly packed gills emitting warm yellow-orange light (450–495 nm) via a luciferin-luciferase system. Cylindrical, semi-translucent stipes support clustered caps on decayed wood. Endemic to cool (10–20°C), humid cave systems, it acts as a saprotrophic decomposer of lignin-rich substrates, playing a key role in nutrient cycling. Belonging to genus Luminomycota, family Mycenaceae, order Agaricales, it disperses basidiospores from luminescent gills, enhancing spore release in low light.
