Luminopteris Iridescentis, named for its light-emitting, winged form and iridescent qualities, features translucent wings with magenta, violet, and cyan patterns highlighted by iridescent veins and spots in a lace-like structure. With a wingspan up to 10 cm and a lightweight body (10-25g), it has a slender segmented thorax, abdomen, and filamentous antennae. Its bioluminescence emits 420-490 nm blue-green light along wing margins and hindwing extensions, aiding mate attraction and camouflage. Inhabiting tropical rainforest canopies at 20-30°C, it displays a graceful fluttering. Taxonomically in Chromaflorae Lepidoptera, it is rare and protected, providing insight into bioluminescence evolution in diurnal and nocturnal Lepidoptera.
