Phosphora Luminaris, from Latin 'phosphorus' (light bearer) and 'luminaris' (illumination), is a species in the genus Aurelia Petalina, noted for bioluminescent floral traits. These 15-30 cm plants have translucent, cup-shaped flowers with five scalloped, intricately veined petals displaying a blue-to-gold gradient and luminescent globules. Slender stems support heart-shaped leaves mirroring petal veining and bioluminescence. Light emission (470-530 nm) derives from photoprotein complexes in petal and leaf epidermis, enhanced by light-responsive petal undulations. Native to tropical rainforest understories (15-30°C, humid, shaded, nutrient-rich soils), it attracts nocturnal pollinators such as moths and beetles. Belonging to family Aureliaceae, its stable yet rare populations highlight ecological resilience.
