Luminosa Aurorae, meaning “radiant light of dawn,” is a rare bioluminescent fungus with a convex cap 10-25 cm high, textured with small warts and pale pink to soft blue hues. It glows blue-green (420-490 nm) from bioluminescent tissues along the translucent pink lamellae and granular, cylindrical stipe. It grows in temperate forest understories, slowly repositioning via growth. Bioluminescence, driven by a luciferin-luciferase system, aids spore dispersal by attracting nocturnal insects. Found on decaying wood, it decomposes lignin and cellulose via a mycelial network. Taxonomically, it belongs to Physalacriaceae, genus Luminosa, order Agaricales.
