Luminorosa Phantasma, meaning 'luminous rose phantom,' is a bioluminescent fungus in the Luminorialis Aurorae cluster, family Luminoriaceae, genus Luminorosa, order Agaricales. It has irregular, ruffled fan-shaped caps up to 15 cm tall with translucent white surfaces edged by frilled margins, emitting faint yellow-green bioluminescence (420-490 nm) via luciferin-luciferase reactions in specialized hyphal cells. Thin, closely spaced lamellae radiate from a stout, pale stipe weighing 15-50 g, rooted in tropical forest floors. Thriving in humid, shaded 5-25°C environments, it decomposes leaf litter and woody debris, recycling organic matter. Its wind-aided spore dispersal benefits from elevated fruiting bodies and bioluminescence that likely attracts vectors. The dense mycelial network plays a critical decomposer role. It is a rare, protected species essential to tropical forest nutrient cycling.
