Luminispectrus Neoglowia, named from Latin 'luminis' (light) and 'spectrus' (spectrum), is a rare, stable bioluminescent fungus in family Chromagloraceae, order Agaricales. Fruiting bodies 0–15 cm tall have funnel-shaped caps with striated margins and radial gills emitting blue luminescence (420–490 nm), contrasted by magenta-reddish pigmentation at gill edges and stem base. Slender stipes show faint luminescent spots. Bioluminescence results from a luciferin-luciferase system, primarily along gills and cap margins, enhancing nocturnal spore dispersal. It inhabits temperate forest understories on decomposing leaf litter and woody substrates at 5–15°C. As a saprotrophic decomposer, its mycelium anchors beneath soil, aiding nutrient cycling and symbiotic interactions. Luminescence attracts nocturnal vectors within the Luminispectra Chromagloria cluster of 20 species.
