Luminifera Purpuracensis, named for its light-emitting ability and purple locality, is a bioluminescent fungal species in Noctiluca Grove. It features large (10-30 cm), fleshy fruiting bodies with broad convex caps and wavy margins, showing a violet to iridescent golden-yellow gradient under low light. The cap has densely packed lamellae for efficient spore dispersal. The robust, cylindrical stipe (5-50 g) has a scaly pattern and similar bioluminescent pigments emitting blue-green light (420-490 nm) via a luciferin-luciferase system. Endemic to tropical rainforest understories, it grows saprophytically on decaying wood at 15–30°C. Belonging to Mycenaceae, genus Luminifera, order Agaricales, it aids nutrient recycling through lignin and cellulose decomposition. Its Vulnerable status highlights its ecological importance in nocturnal forest biodiversity.
