Flora Luminosa, meaning 'illuminated flower,' is a bioluminescent species in the Petalum Glimmera cluster. It features translucent, bluish undulating petals (10–30 cm tall) with scalloped margins and orange pollen specks. The radial flower has layered corolla segments around a central disk with prominent reproductive organs. Its slender, sturdy stem allows aquatic undulation in deep ocean reef currents. Bioluminescence spans blue (470-530 nm) petals to warmer orange near the core via localized luciferin-luciferase reactions. Found in cold (0-15°C), nutrient-rich deep reefs, it supports nocturnal pollination by deep-sea invertebrates and plankton, contributing to reef biodiversity. Classified in Petalaceae, genus Petalum, Flora Luminosa is among 20 vulnerable species, forming symbiotic reef relationships.
