Biomyces Spectroglow, named from Latin roots meaning life, fungus, spectrum, and glow, is a rare bioluminescent fungus found in tropical rainforest canopies. It features undulating, pleated caps in emerald green, pink, and pale turquoise with wavy margins and textured gills on a slender stipe anchoring to woody debris. Emitting a soft blue-green luminescence (450-495 nm) mainly from gills via a luciferin-luciferase system, it thrives in 0-20°C environments. Belonging to Agaricales, Crepusculariaceae, genus Biomyces, it grows up to 15 cm, weighs 10-25 g, and can subtly move toward light and humidity. A decomposer critical to nutrient cycling, its spores disperse airborne from its elevated canopy position, supporting forest regeneration. Its mycelium enhances organic breakdown, maintaining ecosystem health.
