Stellaris Borealis, named for its starry and northern lights-inspired bioluminescence, is a rare species in the genus Aurelia (family Petalinaceae), 20-50 cm tall with intricate floral morphology. Its broad, undulating petals exhibit radial symmetry and luminescent dots, while semi-translucent leaves show speckled glowing cells emitting blue-green light (420-490 nm). Native to tropical rainforest canopies (15-30°C), it thrives in filtered light and high humidity. Bioluminescence, from specialized photoproteins in flowers and leaves, attracts nocturnal moths and insects for cross-pollination. This species’ slender stems support gentle swaying, playing a vital role in nocturnal ecosystem dynamics and biodiversity.
