Photosmyces Lumosaic, from Latin photo (light) and mysces (fungus), with lumosaic describing its mosaic-like bioluminescence, is a unique fungal species in the Irido Myco cluster. It has slender, clustered fruiting bodies up to 10 cm tall, with caps showing a wavy margin edged by vivid cyan luminescence and an orange-magenta gradient. The finely spaced gills are deep purple to red, supported by robust, mottled stipes. Exhibiting rare aquatic undulation aiding spore dispersal, it inhabits tropical rainforest canopies on decaying wood at 5-20°C. Bioluminescence occurs via a unique luciferin-luciferase reaction emitting blue-green light (450-495 nm). Placed in Iridomycetaceae (genus Photosmyces), it plays a vital decomposer role, with spores dispersed through micro-aquatic motion and air currents. With 50 species, P. Lumosaic balances biodiversity enrichment and vulnerability from habitat loss.
