Luminaria Aurellia, named from Latin for light and golden, is a rare bioluminescent aquatic plant emitting a golden glow within the 470-530 nm aqua spectrum. It features translucent, ruffled petals with milky white bases and orange spotting, bright orange clustered stamens and pistils, and semi-transparent leaves edged with bioluminescent nodules. The slender stem supports 20-40 cm height and 15-50 g mass. Bioluminescence pulses rhythmically via photoproteins triggered by water movement. Endemic to cool (5-20°C) marine caves with low light, it supports cave ecosystems by sheltering and attracting luminescent insects and crustaceans for pollination. Taxonomically in Aqua Luminaceae, genus includes 10 luminous species.
