The Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer is an oil painting on canvas (138×138 cm) by Gustav Klimt made in 1907. First of two homonymous paintings, he is considered as the last – as well as the most representative – of his "golden period". The work, perfectly square in size (138×138 cm), portrays Adele Bloch-Bauer: she is the daughter of the entrepreneur Maurice Bauer, then married Baron Bloch's son, a very important sugar industrialist thanks to whom he consecrated his social affirmation. The Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I is one of the most significant and famous canvases of the so-called "golden period", that Klimtian artistic phase that presents precisely an intense use of the colour gold, which here with its shine floods the entire canvas.
