An energy plant and refinery that feeds New York City, photographed at night from a private helicopter trespassing over this critical part of the city’s economic engine. This is a hazardous place to shoot, both because it’s off-limits and also because the gas being burned off in the towers is toxic to breathe and creates dangerous conditions for the helicopter. This is a new image from my ongoing series “Critical Infrastructure,” a personal odyssey to capture unique perspectives of the infrastructure that supports our global economy. Combining extreme technical and compositional challenges, these images also display my interest in abstracting the built environment to reveal unexpected relationships and the beauty in technological complexity. The auction winner will also receive a print of the image hand-signed by the artist. Size: 13” x 19” Medium: Archival pigment print on cotton rag paper Ships worldwide
