When the opportunity to travel on this schooner to the very top of Iceland became a possibility, I knew that I had to get in the water. It was instinctive, like my brain had secretly been planning this its whole life. It was 5am and I had just woken up. I was told it was now or never and within 5 minutes I was in my wetsuit ready to go. The crew came out in a dinghy to keep me safe, and just like that I was in the water, the blackness below being an intimidation I never knew existed, battling the icy cold waves as they crashed over my head, all while trying to keep my breathing in control. Eventually there was a moment where it was just me and my camera. I only managed 10 minutes before the cold took over, and I waved the crew over to pull me out. There aren't many words that could describe the feelings and experience of being in icy cold waters within the Arctic Circle but brave and exhilarating is what will stick with me forever.
