I recently had to say goodbye to someone close. The last moment we spent together she was lying on her deathbed, with warm sunlight coming from the window. Outside it looked like an idyllic spring sunset, but inside I was shivering, barely holding on. She told me gently: ‘I am at peace’. Her words hugged me like a veil of light that calmed me. Hearing those words from her at that moment gave me solace I have never felt before. It was majestic and I tried to capture what I felt in this painting.
