This oil painting was inspired by a magical hike I took in the late spring of 2019 through Arizona canyons and came across many blooming cacti such as this one. I had to stop and take in the beauty of this particular one; the fuchsia pink flowers and spikes against the shades of green were a feast to my eyes but I maintained a safe distance from the long sharp thorns. I painted this scene to capture the juxtaposition of the delicate flowers and rigid thorns protecting them. There’s something mysteriously alluring about these plants, almost spiritual in nature, and I really wanted to recreate this sense of “look but don’t touch” into a painting. The collector of this piece may also have a signed print on archival paper if they wish. Contact me on twitter for details.
