Roadside is a series of 25 images. These were taken during the first lockdown in rural New Zealand in March of 2020. This series started through phone calls with friends and family. While travelling to essential services I would pull over at the side of the road and have phone conversations filled with fear, anxiety and anger on what was happening locally and around the world, so I started documenting the location where I had pulled over by taking a photograph through the windscreen of my car. I controlled the time of day I travelled and the location was purely controlled by whether my phone rang. I never told anyone about the project to keep the phone calls sporadic and random. The only thing I changed was the route I travelled. And maybe make an image of my wandering, a little image - shrine be the roadside to signify to traveler that I live here in the wilderness awake and at home. • Allen Ginsberg •
