Vrindavan (aka Vrindaban, Brindaban), is a historical city situated on the banks of the Yamuna River in the Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh, India. The town is the sacred centre of the Hindu deity Krishna & is one of the most sacred places in Vaishnavism. It was in Vrindavan & its surrounding forests that the key events of Krishna’s mythological life took place. The town hosts many temples dedicated to the worship of Radha & Krishna. Millions of devotees of Radha Krishna visit Vrindavan & it's nearby areas every year to participate in number of festivals. Vrindavan is also known as the 'city of widows' due to the large number of widows who move into the town & surrounding area after losing their husbands. Many spend time singing hymns at bhajanashrams. Several homes are run by the government & NGOs for widows & an organisation called Guild of Service was formed to assist these deprived women & children. This is an avant-garde artwork representing fantasy Vrindavan. Art by @mreditx
