Hasankeyf is an ancient district in eastern Turkey within the borders of the city of Batman. The Tigris river runs through it. The history of the district goes back 12,000 years. It was declared a natural protection area in 1981. However, the historical settlement was flooded in May 2020 as a result of the impoundment of the Ilısu Dam. In its history of 12 thousand years, Hasankeyf came under the rule of Mitannis, Assyrians, Urartu (Armenia), Scythians, Meds, Persians, Romans, Byzantine Greeks, Abbasids, Seljuks, Ottomans and finally Turkey. It is a legendary town that lives with the traces of each culture. Through this work, I reflect on how such a great destruction of a marvelous town has impacted my memories. A long time ago, people called it The City of the Rose, so this work of mine is also called the City of the Rose.
