This image is a continuation of the Fancy Tiles series that premiered on the artist’s Instagram page on December 6, 2020. The original featured a 10 by 10 grid mostly filled with colored squares but also containing several unfilled spaces on the black background. The series quickly developed to contain slightly more sophisticated shapes inside the squares and the tiles adopted a movement algorithm. Conceptually, artwork in this collection is about Roots, Diversity, and Community. This piece is about diversity and community. It shows the beauty of color variations, whatever meaning the viewer assigns to the color. It also expands the number of tiles shown to a grid of 50 rows by 50 columns, with three tile pieces missing. The missing tiles have a dual meaning in this collection: while it is an empty space devoid of any color, it attracts neighboring tiles to start the movement (even though it is not shown in this static image, it is assumed and anticipated).
