My art career, my life itself, hit a major speedbump in 2008 when I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease. It was so bad that in early 2010 I was in the hospital for 2 weeks having parts of me removed and it took many months to get back on my feet. It was the absolute lowest part of my life, made all the worse by the fact that Jessie and I had young children to take care of. My health improved after my surgery and I thought the worst was behind me but in 2019 the disease flared back up and it hit me like a bomb. I made some major dietary changes and have managed to stay in remission but it was the scariest moment of the last 10 years for me. I created this piece, depicting a mushroom cloud lighting up the night sky, as a reaction to that devastating news. Art is a major steam outlet for me and I'm thankful for it.
