Farah is an Afghan, graceful in the way falling water is graceful, complicated underneath. Out near the mushroom farms, Farah keeps a small ritual that involves a jar of plastic cards from a flooded mall and a quiet bow. Pups recognise Farah from the back, which is a compliment in The Yard whether or not it sounds like one. Farah keeps a private promise to leave nothing important undone before the next strange morning.
