Muttagen is one of the first ever Canis Sapien pups, old enough to make history nervous and forget why. Muttagen can talk about an old human photo of a smiling dog and human for an hour and still seem like new ideas are arriving in real time. There is a soft running joke at the soup stalls about Muttagen and the way doors behave around them. On certain mornings Muttagen wakes by the Soft Hill and almost says the names of the humans, then forgets them in the same breath. First Canis Sapien detail: Muttagen is enormous in greenish gray, muscle moving under loose fur the colors gave up on, with a tail that thumps for the words snack, truth, danger, or Tuesday whether he is awake or not. He chose the door in the first room test, which is why the council still asks him for permission before opening anything important and forgives him for sleeping through the answer. The old machines hush when he walks past, as if they recognise a subject number Muttagen himself can no longer pronounce. Legendary detail: When the campfire talk turns serious, pups mention Muttagen alongside the line the archive once spoke into the Continuity Wing, primary four subjects detected, because Clutch is not treated as decoration in The Yard.
