In The Yard, Cavendish Steele is known as a Bulldog who is stitched out of stoicism and a hidden soft spot. Anyone within earshot of Cavendish Steele eventually hears the theory that the fire halos are old fevers that learned to behave. Pups passing the cracked freeway loop sometimes wave to Cavendish Steele out of habit, even on days when nobody is actually there. The old soup stalls have heard most of Cavendish Steele's theories and politely keep them to themselves.
