The orizuru, or folded paper crane, is a classic origami design with deep cultural significance in Japan. The word orizuru combines ori, meaning "folded", and tsuru, meaning "crane". The crane is a symbol of good fortune and long life, and the orizuru is considered the most iconic origami figure. In Japan, people fold orizuru to pray for recovery from illness, and the legend says that folding 1,000 cranes, called senbazuru, grants a wish.
