Tanaquil is an Etruscan queen of Rome by marriage to Tarquinius Priscus, the 5th king who rose from low-born status. According to legend, Tanaquil had prophetic powers and foresaw that her and her husband's fortunes and social status would improve if they settled in Rome. Her powers of prophecy also helped her install her adopted son, Servius Tullius, as the next king. Tanaquil is also renowned for her skill at spinning and weaving, becoming a model of virtue for Roman brides.
