Lucius Tarquinius Superbus (?? - 495 BC) is the legendary 7th and last king of Rome whose reign is dated from 534 to 509 BC. Tarquin gained the throne through murders of both his wife and elder brother and assassination of his predecessor Servius Tullius. His reign is characterized by tyranny so harsh that it justified the abolition of the monarchy, ushering in the Roman Republic.
