Vipsania Agrippina "the Elder" (14 BC - 33 AD) is a major figure in the succession struggles near the end of the reign of emperor Tiberius. She was married to Germanicus, and accompanied her husband on his military campaigns, where he died of suspected poisoning in Antioch in 19 AD. After returning her husband's ashes to Rome, she accused Tiberius of having had Germanicus murdered, so Tiberius had his prefect Sejanus exile her to an island where she died of starvation. Of her nine children by Germanicus, one son and three daughters survived. The son, Caligula became the next emperor, and her daughter, Julia Agrippina, became the mother of emperor Nero.
