Seishin’s reference is the Jinrou from the Shiki manga series Shiki (屍鬼, "Corpse Demon" or "Death Spirit") is a Japanese horror novel written by Fuyumi Ono. It was originally published in two parts in 1998, it was then reprinted into five parts in 2002. A manga series adapting the story, drawn by Ryu Fujisaki was serialized in the Japanese monthly magazine Jump SQ. The story takes place in a particularly hot summer in 1994, in a small quiet Japanese village called Sotoba. A series of mysterious deaths begin to spread in the village, at the same time when a strange family moves into the long-abandoned Kanemasa mansion on top of a hill. Seishin Muroi was the junior monk of the temple in Sotoba along with secretly writing novels and essays. He is a childhood friend of Toshio Ozaki, the local doctor, though their friendship shattered when Toshio killed his own wife, Kyouko, after experimenting on her to find the weaknesses of Shiki (Demon/Vampire). He is now currently a Jinrou travelling with Sunako Kirishiki as the replacement of Tatsumi. Jinrou (人狼), also referred to as werewolves by certain characters, are a subspecies of shiki present in anime, manga, and novels. They are considerably rarer than regular shiki and are generally superior, as they lack most of the key weakness afflicting the former- vulnerability to sunlight, a diet strictly limited to blood, and involuntary loss of consciousness at daybreak, among others. While they are indeed a variation of the vampires most abundant in the series, they are not truly undead as, according to Tatsumi, humans who become jinrou experience transformation at the brink of death rather than reanimation postmortem. Due to their resistance to sunlight, heightened senses, and general ability to easily blend in with humans, the jinrou working for the Kirishikis serve as daytime lookouts and commanders of the shiki forces in the anime, manga and novels. Despite being referred to as werewolves, jinrou are not actually lycans or shapeshifters.
