Rory’s reference is the 12 Apostles of Emroy from the Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri manga series Gate (Japanese: ゲート 自衛隊 彼の地にて、斯く戦えり, Hepburn: Gate: Jieitai Kano Chi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri, lit. 'GATE: Thus the Japanese Self-Defense Force Fought in Their Land.'), is a Japanese fantasy novel series written by Takumi Yanai and illustrated by Daisuke Izuka and Kurojishi. In modern-day Ginza, Tokyo, a portal from another world suddenly appears and a legion of Roman-style medieval soldiers and monsters emerge to attack the city. Using modern weaponry and tactics, the Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) easily repels the enemy and passes through the Gate to establish a forward operating base and initiate peace negotiations with the Empire of the other world. Rory Mercury (ロリー·マーキュリー Rorī Mākyurī) is a demigoddess and an apostle of Emroy, the god of darkness, war, violence, and death. Despite her antediluvian age, she has the appearance of a 13-year-old girl. Along similar lines, despite her delicate, petite frame, she is widely known as Rory the Reaper due to her wielding of her halberd as a scythe, slaughtering those who offend Emroy, and those she views as worthy of being punished by death. Her gothic lolita dress is an outfit for priestesses. In terms of age, she is the third youngest Apostle of the Twelve Apostles. Emroy (エムロイ Emuroi) is the God of Darkness, War, Death, Violence, and Insanity. Like the other gods of the Special Region, he sometimes directly interacts with his followers and little is revealed about his personality, though he is implied to be bloodthirsty and violent. His Apostles will transcend after reaching the 1000th year of existence, became fully immortal and powerful, in exchange for being asexual and sexually disinterested, regardless of gender before ascending.
