Nomad’s reference is the Singularity Church of the MachineGod from the Deus Ex Game series The first two games in the series were developed by Ion Storm, and subsequent entries were developed by Eidos Montréal, following Ion Storm's closure. Deus Ex is a series of role-playing video games, set during the 21st century, focusing on the conflict between secretive factions who wish to control the world by proxy, and the effects of transhumanistic attitudes and technologies in a dystopian future setting featuring references to real-world conspiracy theories, historical mythologies and philosophies and on commentaries of capitalist values and division in society. The Singularity Church of the Machine God is a quasi-religious cult that formed following the emergence of augmentation technology. The Church believes that with technology, humanity will evolve beyond flesh and blood. During an event known as "Singularity", individual consciousness will merge to form something that transcends death. They appear to worship a sort of deity called the MachineGod, and believe that the MachineGod has chosen augmented people as his people. Members of the Prague group seek to accomplish a feat that they call "Ascension," which refers to the merging of their consciousness with that of the MachineGod. One member of the church, Josef Severn, known as the "builder," constructed a machine intended for this purpose. The Church's facility is an apartment complex heavily outfitted with advanced technology that has been set up in a crude way. The cult complex has a few floors, but due to a recent break-in, the only floor allowing general access is the 1st floor. Beyond the main courtyard on the first floor is a basketball hoop and a pile of generators. The 2nd floor has a hologram of the consciousness collector and a small armory. On the 3rd floor, there are two makeshift server rooms, with a third room having dozens of TVs displaying static.
