Lyserg’s reference is the X-Laws from the Shaman King anime series Shaman King is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hiroyuki Takei. It follows the adventures of Yoh Asakura as he attempts to hone his shaman skills to become the Shaman King by winning the Shaman Fight. Takei chose shamanism as the main theme of the series because he wanted a topic that had never been attempted before in manga. The Shaman King manga was originally serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump between June 1998 and August 2004. The individual chapters were collected and released in 32 tankōbon volumes. Lyserg Diethel is a fictional character from the Shaman King series. He is orphaned from a young age when Asakura Hao killed his parents for refusing to join him. This makes him seek revenge, and eventually participate in the Shaman Fight to kill Hao. The X-Laws was founded by Luchist Lasso and is a successor to the organization Heaven's Gate which was founded by Luchist's grandfather, Luke Lasso. The X-Laws are currently led by Iron Maiden Jeanne, whose ideals and strength instill an almost-religious sense of reverence into them. However, their "de facto" leader is Jeanne's second-in-command, Marco Lasso. The X-Laws obey him without question and his authority to act is overruled only by Jeanne herself. The members are grouped into units of three, which are also fully functional combat squads. In the Shaman Fight, the X-Laws have fielded three such teams. Of the three, X-I is the most successful, advancing to the semi-finals before dropping out. The X-Laws aim to eradicate all human evil and suffering through any means necessary and view Asakura Hao as the embodiment of this evil. Therefore, their ultimate goal is to kill him, a cause to which they are fanatically devoted. As a result, the X-Laws often tend to use extreme methods to achieve their goals, even sacrificing their lives to do so, reasoning that the ends justify their means. Furthermore, almost all have suffered some loss at the hands of Hao, and as such are fanatically opposed to him.
