Before discovering a Leviathan shard, Gyglid was a perfectly ordinary young Wabaglob - witty, amusing, and charmingly naughty. He still has not acclimated to the powers of the 187 - practical jokes that would be funny for any other Wabaglob have become dangerous, sometimes harmful things in his hands. He is not ill-intentioned, just kind of a walking disaster area. Since he himself is apparently indestructible now, there has been a bit of a learning curve as he adjusts.
