**Secret Artist #13 — Vault #13** Sahra strutted confidently across the marble tiles and made her way towards the door marked “Neo VR Bank Employees Only”. In reality, she was sitting on the floor of her tech room with her helmet on, but if the hack had worked, the security systems would assume she was just a bot like most of the employees walking around the bank’s interface. As she approached the door, one of the security protocol bots appeared at her side. “Good day! I’m afraid this area is offfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff” That was a good sign. She began interacting with the door’s code. The bot turned around and walked away. If the hack had failed, her VR-self would have been immediately deadlocked and her physical location tracked. She pulled and played with the code in front of her until she was able to pass right through the door without setting off a single alarm. She was now in a room facing a wall with two holes, one labelled “Retail” The other labelled “Investment”. This was exactly what Sahra had been expecting. She walked over, climbed into the “Investment” hole and threw herself forward. She began flying down a giant tube, which at once began glowing red, revealing circuitry and wires behind its transparent surface. As she flew down, alternative paths began opening up. She would have to lean left and right to ensure she was going to arrive at the correct destination. Even though this was all happening in VR, the feeling was exhilarating. She had been memorising this route for weeks. “Investment chute” Lean left “Mergers and Acquisitions” Lean left again “IPOs” Lean right “Special IPOs” Lean left “Shell SPACS” Lean right “Project Zeus” Now, coming left and right from the main tube, were smaller ones, each labelled “Investor Vault” with a corresponding number. She was nearly there. “Investor Vault #13”. She leaned left one last time and at once flew into a grey room. The room had no windows, it was featureless aside from a fluorescent light and one giant vault door with the classic safe wheel on it. Sahra was surprised for the first time since her heist had started. Of all the ways the interface could have been designed, an old-fashioned safe seemed a little predictable. However, this was the point at which she was stepping into the unknown. Once she hacked this door, something would be on the other side, something that was going to make her rich, and someone really poor. She’d done her homework, and made sure it was someone who would really deserve to wake up and find their money had gone to zero. She began working on the door’s code. This would take a longer time than the first door. As she dipped in and out of her flow state, she wondered if perhaps the old-fashioned interface might be a reflection of how the safe’s contents would also appear. Maybe she’d break in only to find giant piles of money, or gold… Eventually, she found the door she was looking for and the door whirred and clicked open. Inside it was completely dark. She tried a few lighting tools and adjusted the brightness setting on her VR headset, but nothing worked. There was nothing for it. She stepped into the darkness and her heart began to pound. It was pitch black. But how? Surely there would still be light from the—she turned round, but there was no sign of the light from the previous room. She began walking forward. Slowly the room began to glow red and blue. She looked at the ground and noticed wires at her feet. Something about them felt familiar. She looked up and through the dim neon she could now see a shape ahead of her. It was a small person, a child? No, they were young, but not a child. The person was sitting down, moving their hands through the air. She recognised those movements. They were hers. Sahra looked down at the figure sitting on the ground. It had stopped moving its hands and it was now staring right at her. Her physical self was looking at her VR self, who was looking back at her physical self. She felt sick. Both Sahras slowly reached up to their VR helmets, dreading what they were about to see, and they both pulled at them in perfect symmetry. Physical Sahra blinked and stared in front of her. There was no other Sahra. In her place, was a smiling man, the owner of Vault #13. He said only two words, and Sahra knew it was over, “Trace complete” *** **The Secret Artists Project** The world of NFTs opens up new, creative opportunities for artists and also for the ecosystem that surrounds them. The Secret Artist Project works to curate innovative artists from inside and outside of the NFT community. We ask them for a piece of their work that has yet to be minted and add it anonymously to our collection. This puts the focus on the art and not the artist. We want people to buy the art simply because they love it. The Secret Artist Project has no Discord, no Telegram, no overambitious roadmap. However, there is one very special bonus you receive with your NFT from The Secret Artist Project, and that is... **The Artist** While their identity remains a mystery to everyone else, the artist's details will be revealed to you after purchasing the NFT — as if you've discovered their signature scrawled on the back of their painting. So now, you not only have the NFT to hang in your home or display in the Metaverse, you also have the opportunity to discover more of the artist’s work. In addition, by holding the NFT and discovering its secrets, you become part of The Secret Artist Project community. Those who hold secrets, hold power... **The Aims of the Secret Artist Project** — to positively impact the artist by putting their art first — to introduce new artists to the NFT space (though we have some well-known artists in our collection too!) — to promote art we love and collaborate with artists we trust *** If you have any questions, or if you’re an artist who would like to feature your artwork in the project, please go to The Secret Artist Project collection’s Opensea page for contact details/socials https://opensea.io/collection/the-secret-artist-project — The Merchant of Venus, Curator of The Secret Art Project *** (Please note that the buyer of “Vault #13” also receives an exclusive alternative version and a glitchy GIF created by Secret Artist #11 in the unlockable content)
