The idol had a glowing halo. It was beautiful. It gave us warmth. It seemed to vibrate, to resonate, to sing to us. We were compelled. We congregated around it. We slept. And… it saved us. In that closed off, hidden place, for countless years we were still dreaming a sweet dream, while outside hell rose and fell. When the dream was over, the idol had become warped, but still had its shimmering halo. We were all alive, all young, all perfect. Outside there was devastation, but it had happened long ago, and now… it was a lush paradise existing atop ruins. There was plenty in this place, there was peace.
